Team Hoku & Kiki

Our first Whisker Walk was in 2019 when we were known as Team Steady & Zero. Steady was our sweet
girl that we acquired from Mojo Akitas as a retired show dog. She crossed the rainbow bridge last year
in early 2023 and now has her angel wings. Zero was our first rescue Akita and he was part of our family
for 3 years. Sadly, in May of 2020 he began to have health issues and Zero crossed the rainbow bridge in
August of 2020. We reached out once again to Namaste Akita Rescue Alliance in September of 2020
only this time we wanted to foster a male Akita with the possibility to adopt. In October we got the call
that a young male Akita was coming into their rescue by the name of Hoku. He was estimated to be 3
years old.

After the first meet and greet, it was clear to all of us that we had found a new friend and companion in
Hoku. Hoku had a rough start and was bounced between two families who didn’t understand the needs
of his breed before he ultimately ended up in the shelter. Steady was the perfect teacher for him at the
time – teaching him how to be a good boy and follow her lead. We officially adopted Hoku in December
of 2020 after fostering him for 2 months for NARA. We now go on many new adventures together
including trips in our camper and vacations in the mountains and at the beach.

This past summer, we added the newest member of our pack, Kiki. She is a spunky puppy who was born
and raised in the Spokane Valley in Washington. She has been such a love. Hoku and Kiki are now a
bonded pair and love to play together, go for walks and car rides together. Kiki will begin her career in
the confirmation show ring this summer. Hoku will be there to cheer her on.

Because of Akita Rescue, we have been able to give a loving home to both Zero and Hoku. That’s why
we decided to participate in Whisker Walk for the first time in 2019 and now we are back again for our
sixth year. We want to help other Akita’s in need by raising funds for Big East Akita Rescue so other
pups like Zero and Hoku can get the care they need and be able to find their forever families. Please
consider a donation to our team to help us reach our fundraising goal of $1000. We are excited at this
opportunity to help!
